Along the Maine
The banks of the Maine can be followed on foot or by bike, from the Savatte quay to the Haute-Chaîne bridge. Moored barges and the summer terraces set up on the quays give the city centre the feel of a seaside town. Continuing to Saint-Aubin Island, a bird-rich wetland to the north, makes for an unexpectedly bucolic date.
Parks, gardens and lake
Angers takes great care of its green spaces. The Botanical Garden, in the city centre, mixes a rose garden, remarkable trees and warm greenhouses. The larger Balzac Park stretches along the Maine with orchards and lawns. A little further, the Lake of Maine welcomes swimming, sailing and paddleboarding in fine weather: ideal activities for a gentle outing for two.
La Doutre and a trip to Terra Botanica
On the other bank, La Doutre, the old craftsmen’s district, invites you to wander between half-timbered houses and little squares. To the north, Terra Botanica offers a plant-themed park for a more family-friendly outing. On Lyad, people from Angers share their favourite green spots; it is up to you to find someone to lace up your trainers and breathe deeply.
